Create a WordPress Website

Sites.utulsa.edu is a self-service website environment intended to meet faculty, staff, and student needs for web publishing not provided by the main utulsa.edu marketing website.

Sites is a WordPress environment hosted by CampusPress. Faculty, staff and students are welcome to create websites related to academic projects, research, events, and communication outreach, organizations, and department endeavors, as well as officially recognized university groups and programs.

Sites may not be used for e-commerce, course material, storage of sensitive data or material unrelated to university activities. Sites must adhere to all university policies.

Official departmental websites still belong in the university’s content management system supported by Marketing & Communications. Sites is not a replacement for a departmental site.

Sites that are inactive for over one year will be archived. Upon request, we can restore websites that have been archived. For assistance, please contact help@utulsa.edu.

Who supports these sites?

Sites are hosted and supported by CampusPress. IT Web Systems provides new sites, access, templates and limited technical support. We work with Marketing and Communications to establish branding guidelines and site reviews. If you have any questions, email websystems@utulsa.edu.

Can I migrate my existing site to CampusPress?

We would encourage you to move an existing site into our system. Get started by filling out the site request form. Keep in mind that sites on CampusPress must use our themes, and sites that have been built with custom themes or with page builders may need to be redesigned. The site owner will be responsible for this, but we can help.

Can I use any theme I want?

We provide and support the CampusPress Flex theme for WordPress sites. This theme is designed to be easy to use and meets accessibility standards. We have also enabled a selection of other themes that are supported by CampusPress. Other themes may be considered for use if approved by CampusPress.

What plugins are available?

Our available plugins can be found in the “Plugins” menu item in your site dashboard. These have been reviewed for quality and security by CampusPress. Because our plugins must meet strict standards, our list is limited. You can send requests for new plugins for review, and we will work with you to meet your need using the tools we have available.

Can I create a password-protected site?

In some cases, you can add a password to a site or to individual pages. However, WordPress is intended to be used for public websites, and our ability to make sites private is limited. We recommend using Sharepoint, Teams and Outlook Groups for internal communications.
