FAQ

What is and is not allowed on these sites?

Faculty and staff are welcome to create websites related to academic projects, research, events, and communication outreach, organizations, and department endeavors, as well as officially recognized university groups and programs. Students must have a faculty or staff site sponsor.

Sites may not be used for e-commerce, course material, storage of sensitive data or material unrelated to university activities. Sites must adhere to all university policies. Official departmental websites still belong in the university’s content management system supported by Marketing & Communications. Sites is not a replacement for a departmental site.

Sites that are inactive for over one year will be archived. Upon request, we can restore websites that have been archived.

Who supports these sites?

Sites are hosted and supported by CampusPress. The Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications provides assistance with content and branding guidance for new sites and templates. If you have any questions, submit a help ticket.

Can I use any theme I want?

We provide and support the CampusPress Flex theme. This theme is designed to be easy to use and meets accessibility standards.

What plugins are available?

Our available plugins can be found in the “Plugins” menu item in your site dashboard. These have been reviewed for quality and security by CampusPress. Because our plugins must meet strict standards, our list is limited. You can send requests for new plugins for review, and we will work with you to meet your need using the tools we have available.

Can I create a password-protected site?

In some cases, you can add a password to a site or to individual pages. However, WordPress is intended to be used for public websites, and our ability to make sites private is limited. We recommend using Sharepoint, Teams and Outlook Groups for internal communications.
