Physical Behavior Research Hub
Mission
The Physical Behavior Research Hub examines how movement, sedentary time, and sleep contribute to physical and mental health across the lifespan. To better understand these complex relationships, we use wearable technology to objectively assess daily behaviors – including physical activity, sedentary and stationary time (e.g., sitting and standing), and sleep. Findings from our work inform physical behavior surveillance, intervention, and health outcomes research.

Research Projects
We are currently involved in multiple projects to better understand how daily behavior influences health. Below is brief overview of each project.
Cardiovascular Health and Future Risk of Cardiovascular Events: The Tulsa Heart Study
This 2-year study funded by the American Heart Association (AHA) utilizes Life’s Essential 8 and the newly developed PREVENT equations to determine cardiovascular health and future risk of cardiovascular events.
Enrollment for this project is open to adults meeting our eligibility criteria.

Physical Behavior & Health: A Prospective Cohort Study
This 3-year study funded by the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement in Science and Technology (OCAST) explores how daily behavior influences physical and mental health outcomes.
Capability of Emergent Assessment Methods to Improve Physical Behavior Research in Oklahoma
This study funded by the TSET Health Promotion Research Center explores the capability of different tools to assess physical behavior under normal, free-living conditions.
