A Brief Look at Game Designers – Jens Bergensten

As I have glanced on, games have been a large part of most people’s lives. But to every game is a group of designers and creators behind them. Today, I will be talking about one Swedish-born Jens Bergensten. From his early life to the current day, Jens “Jeb” Bergensten showed a great example of hard work and perseverance, which ending up paying off, as he is proudly the Lead Developer of Mojang.

Early Life

Jens Bergensten, now known as one of the Lead Developers of Minecraft, was born May 18th, 1979 in Örebro, Sweden. As a child, he showed interest in the sciences, taking that to a university in Stockholm to master programing. He used this knowledge to develop games, many which didn’t take off early on. However, one of his first major accomplishments would be in 2008, when his game Harvest: Massive Encounter would win 2nd Place in the Swedish Game Awards. In 2009, the game Minecraft was beginning its development, with Jens taking over its development in 2011. In 2016, Jeb also was developer on a game called Cobalt, an action side-scrolling game released by Mojang. While it wasn’t as popular as Minecraft, this game still did bolster quite a large gathering for a time.

In the Present

To this day, Jens “Jeb” Bergensten works at Mojang as the Lead Developer for Minecraft. I believe Jeb to be a very good role model for many up-and-coming game developers. Starting from nothing but a dream and struggling through the stairway of success, Jeb was able to push from none of his games being heard about, to winning 2nd place in a contest, to being the Lead Developer for one of the mode popularly grossing games around, somehow even increasing in popularity 10 years after its release. The ability to persevere is a very strong one to have in the gaming industry, where things may not always go your way. A look at Jeb’s career proves that having that ability pays off big time.
