Devlog 03-1

This is probably the most chaotic devlog I’m ever going to release. This might also be the last devlog I released because I don’t know if I’m going to make these again. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy making these, but at the same time there is a weird thing where I just have to sit down and write these. And to be honest, I am not the best sitting down and writing things.
In the Blink of an Eye
Anyways, uh, this group is quite a fun one. Before we were assigned our groups, A friend of mine had told me about this idea he wanted to make Inspired by Before Your Eyes. Before your eyes is a video game that progresses the story every time you blink. It is the first time I had heard of game doing this, So naturally, I looked it up to see if there were anymore. However, I could only find one other game that uses blinking.
Which is such a shame, in my opinion, since eye tracking can add so much to a game. I’ve never used it, but the videos I have seen were great.
Modeling an Idea
So our team has decided that we want to add to that very small list of games. We were uncertain exactly what we were going to do, but my mind immediately jumped to SCP-173. Also known as the statue, it is basically a weeping Angel as it can only move when you are not looking at it. Unlike weeping Angels, however, they SCP 173 is so fast that even blinking is considered dangerous.
Here’s the thing. We are a school project that doesn’t want to deal with licensing things, especially due to the controversy surrounding the previous design of 173. We also have way less time to get this project out… So I decided to look at my prior work and see what I have.
If anyone’s curious to what we’re using instead, I would like to introduce you to Tess-23: an original character of mine that I had modeled for a prior homework assignment. I spent almost an entire day fixing up the models weights and texture to ensure that it will be ready to go.

This is an outdated version of Tess: The current model has smoother pants and a better texture.
My current plan for Tess is that I will have a short animation where he generally makes his way closer to the player. Whenever the player’s eyes are on him then he will not move. However, whenever he is not being looked at, his animations will resume: as soon as he gets to you the game is over.
