Dev Log 2 – Unreal Engine 5 Simulations

Week 2

In week 2 of our development project for the simulation, the categories of work are more shown. One person works on the landscaping while the other did the storyboard and plans to populate the island with fauna. The 4th member was not around much this week, and their role is not fully known yet other than working on lighting. My progress on water has gotten much better, though currently the water doesn’t seem to be able to react to any physics. With a longer time period, the water would only look better and better, but for the current time constraints, the water will do in its current state.

Personal Progress

Currently, my creation of the water and understanding on the engine has gotten better. Learning different systems is a large challenge in this process, as we are all used to making and programing in Unity only. Unreal Engine 5 is a much nicer engine in some ways, but due to the lack of familiarity, it can feel foreign and hard to navigate. With my part of the project done, however, and other people’s work coming up soon, with 2 days left for the project to be complete, we should have plenty of time to get a nice project done. Hopefully the 4th member will be around more during this next week and we combine our assets together on Tuesday. That will leave the rest of Tuesday for populating the island and filming the shoot, then putting it all together to send in.

Week 2 Conclusion

Week 2 was productive on my side and the island is looking better. With time we will pile it all together and put it into one file and film it. With the prototype being due on Thursday midnight, a presentation and paper due next Tuesday, there should be plenty of time overall, as long as hopefully the members all pull together to ensure all work is done.
