James Higgs is a Ph.D. student at The University of Tulsa. He obtained his MCom with a specialization in Information Systems. He was recognized as top of his class for his four-year bachelor’s and master’s degree — obtaining both degrees cum laude. In 2018, James was recognized as one of the top 100 university students in South Africa. In 2021, he received support from the National Research Foundation of South Africa for his Master’s degree exploring peer-to-peer energy trading and blockchain technology. His research interests center around money laundering, digital identity management, and economic and financial crime. His Ph.D. dissertation is focused on cyberlaundering, where he researches how digital identity management practices can be adapted and applied to prevent the laundering of virtual assets and currencies through online video games.
