Philip Shumway is A Cyber Fellow and a new student in the Cyber Studies Program. He recently received his MA in Industrial Organizational Psychology, and is currently working within the Cyber Hygiene Improvement Lab, with specific interests in studying the cognitive and effective reactions of increased authentication demands when using company or organizationally controlled devices. More specifically, he is interested in understanding if the way in which security features are implemented have a meaningful momentary impact at the individual level (e.g., consequences of failing to login), and overtime, if these failures build towards negative outcomes of interest in the workplace setting, such as reduced computer efficacy and increased counterproductive workplace behavior. Broadly, he is interested in researching the interaction between human thinking, feeling, behavior and cybersecurity protocols/resources, and if these interactions produce consequences or advantages at the individual or organizational level in various workplaces.
