As well as learning from current industry professionals, we will pay it forward to the next generation of budding aerospace engineers through outreach to local schools. In addition to outreach, the Hurricane Rocketry Club is proud to say it is made up of a diverse group of students, united by a passion for aerospace and engineering. HRC Members are representing different genders, grade levels, and academic disciplines across the university.

Community Engagement

As well as learning from current industry professionals, we will pay it forward to the next generation of budding aerospace engineers through outreach to local schools. Our target audiences include:

  • Scouts & Girl Scouts
  • 4-H Clubs
  • Tulsa Public Schools
  • The University of Tulsa University School

Recently, 6 of our club members visited the University School in order to do a STEM outreach activity with the thirty-six 5th and 6th graders at the school. Our president, Ryan Smith, talked about what STEM means and why it is important for our world. We then gave instruction for them to make their very own customizable paper rockets and had a competition to see how high they went. The students got the chance to learn about rocketry and their opportunities to pursue it in their futures.

Partnership with other TU clubs:

To build a larger engineering community at the University of Tulsa, we plan to partner with other clubs, including:

  • SAE Aero
  • Society of Women Engineers
  • Software Engineering Club
  • Combat Robotics Club
