Getting to Tulsa

The city of Tulsa is served by Tulsa International Airport (TUL), which currently offers nonstop flights to a number of major hubs, including New York LaGuardia (LGA), Washington-Reagan (DCA), Charlotte (CLT), Atlanta (ATL), Miami (MIA), Houston (HOU), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Saint Louis (STL), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Denver (DEN), Salt Lake City (SLC), Phoenix (PHX), Las Vegas (LAS), and Los Angeles (LAX). Airlines that fly to Tulsa include American, Delta, Southwest, United, and their respective partners.

Alternatives to TUL include:

• Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City (OKC), c. 2 hours to Tulsa by car.
• Norwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA), c. 2 hours to Tulsa by car.
• Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT), c. 2.5-3 hours by car.
• Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), c. 4 hours to Tulsa by car.
• Kansas City International Airport (MCI), c. 4 hours to Tulsa by car.

Note: Tulsa is not served by passenger rail. The closest Amtrak Station is located in Oklahoma City. Tulsa is served by Greyhound bus lines.

Getting around Tulsa

Tulsa is a driving city, with few sidewalks beyond downtown and its older neighborhoods. Fortunately, the University of Tulsa is located within one of these older neighborhoods, c. 3 miles (c. 5km) from downtown. The area around the university is pedestrian friendly and has a number of bicycle lanes connecting it to downtown and other parts of the city.

The easiest way to get around Tulsa is via car. There will be ample parking on campus, since students will be on spring break. Depending on the location of their lodgings, attendees without cars might choose to walk, rent an e-bicycle (“This Machine”) or electric scooter (“Lime” or “Bird”), take a bus or taxi, or use a rideshare app (“Uber” or “Lyft”).

Lodging

The conference organizers have blocked out 50 rooms at a significantly discounted rate at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, located 3 mi/5km from campus in downtown Tulsa. Standard king/queen rooms will be available Wednesday, March 19 through Sunday, March 23 at the rate of $129/night (plus applicable taxes and fees). This rate includes complimentary airport shuttle, high-speed internet, and a hot breakfast, as well as access to the hotel’s indoor pool and fitness center. Should the conference hotel sell out of rooms, there are a number of alternatives located nearby. There are also alternatives closer to campus, including boutique hotels and motels along Route 66 and various national and international chains by the airport. Some of these are nicer and in safer locations than others, so it is highly recommended that you do your research before booking. The same goes for short-term home, condo, and apartment rentals (Airbnb and Vrbo).
