VIEW (Variability in Emotion and Wellbeing) Lab

Research

The VIEW (Variability in Emotion and Wellbeing) Lab studies well-being, emotion, and performance in the workplace. We investigate how individuals dynamically experience and respond to workplace constructs over time, emphasizing person-specific, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural perspectives. By leveraging advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and experience-sampling methodologies, our lab aims to bridge theoretical insights with practical applications in the workplace and beyond.

Core Research Areas

  • Well-being and emotion: Using idiographic, interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and mixed methodological approaches, we investigate what makes people happy. We seek to advance the well-being of individuals through person-centric, multilevel, and cross-disciplinary lens.

  • Variability and Dynamics: Change is a part of human experience. We examine short-term affect, performance, and personality states fluctuations over time and the implications of such variability on individual outcomes. We use experience sampling methodology and daily diary studies to capture in-the-moment experiences of individuals. In the future, we plan to use measurement burst and sensor-based studies to further our investigation.

  • Measurement and Modeling: We integrate statistical techniques, including multilevel modeling, text mining, machine learning, and network analysis, to capture nuanced, data-driven insights into workplace behavior. By leveraging big data and novel methodologies, we aim to refine and expand the science of well-being and organizational psychology.
