Student Success Showcase (April 2025)

Undergraduate student Merari Avelar joined other UTulsa undergraduate students in showcasing their research and project achievements this past April! Merari presented on behalf of the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge (TURC) about The Tulsa Longitudinal Study for Advancing Maternal-Infant Health also known as the TULSA Mom & Baby Study. TULSA Mom & Baby recruitment and participant sessions are ongoing, with aims to better understand biopsychosocial factors that influence the perinatal period and child development.
Graduate Student Research Celebration (April 2025)

Graduate student Ava Hanson presented her research on the qualitative re-examination of relations between mental health and diet in collegiate female athletes to an audience of faculty, students, and members of the wider Tulsa community. Graduate students Jasmin Kurien and Madison Bissa also presented posters on their ongoing projects.
Southwestern Psychological Association (March 2025)

The Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) Annual Convention took place in Little Rock, Arkansas this spring. Among those sharing valuable and impactful research, graduate students Alex Gillham and Madison Bissa presented a poster about the prevalence of unintended pregnancy and postpartum depression in American Indian and/or Alaskan Native Women.
GRAND MH Professional Development (2024)

GRAND MH invited us to their professional development seminar as keynote speakers. We were able to give a presentation on Evidence-based Psychological Interventions for Perinatal Clients to a group of GRAND mental health employees that included LPCs, counselors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Pre-Candidacy Day (April 2024)


Each spring, the University of Tulsa hosts Candidacy Day. This event features presentations by graduate students as they showcase their PhD pre-candidacy research. Pictured are graduate students Alex Gillham and Jasmin Kurien presenting!
Research Symposium (2023)


The spring Research Symposium is intended to provide students the opportunity to share their own research projects while learning about other students’ research. This past spring, graduate students (left) Ava Hanson, Jasmin Kurien, and Alex Gillham delivered presentations, as well as undergraduate students (right) Madeline Hudson, Emma Opoku, and Brittany Banh.

NINAWC Conference (2023)


The National Indigenous and Native American WIC Coalition is a nonprofit organization supporting women, infants, and children and providing nutrition education for at-risk groups. The NINAWC Conference is a three-day conference held in Oklahoma City, during which current research regarding nutrition and breastfeeding is discussed. Dr. Nicki Aubuchon-Endsley and graduate student Alex Gillham presented at the conference this past spring.
