Amanda Gentz on her experience at the 8th Annual International Conference on the Safety of Journalists in Norway:

It was a great experience! I was a fourth-year clinical psychology doctoral student, and my research area focuses on the mental health of journalists. It was such a valuable experience getting to go to Norway and work with individuals from around the world. The combination of different cultures and academic disciplines has led to rich research projects that we will be conducting over the next couple of months. My group’s project is looking at the legal safety of journalists by examining case studies of SLAAP lawsuits against journalists in the US, Brazil, and Spain. Beyond our research projects we also gained valuable experiences in Norway that will continue to inform my academic pursuits. We attended and presented at the 8th Annual International Conference on the Safety of Journalists. I got to see the ongoing projects and research people are doing from around the world to aid journalists’ safety. We also got to attend a safety training where I not only learned practical skills but also got first hand experience with the kind of preparation and risks journalists experience.
